Welcome to the Sara DeSoto Chapter House & Whitaker Collection in historic Pioneer Park!

Have fun exploring this website. We invite you to discover how our century-old organization has grown and changed with the times. Our service continues.

The timeless mission of the DAR is to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. This provides an incredibly wide range of opportunities for women of all ages to serve the Sarasota community and the nation. Committees include American Indians, Conservation, Literacy, American History, Naturalized Citizens, DAR Schools, Women’s Issues, Veterans Affairs, and American Music, to name just a few.

The Sara Desoto Chapter is an active, involved group, with many events, activities and functions. We encourage our members to be good community stewards, while offering a range of activities that suit a variety of people.

We award scholarships to area students, in addition to Good Citizenship Medals and an American History Teacher’s Award, and we recognize student American History Essay winners. Nationally, DAR contributes more than one million dollars in scholarships to deserving students.

Membership in the DAR is simple and straighforward. More Info...

There are also auxiliary associations such as the Children of the American Revolution with age relevant activities, promoting love of country and leadership skills.

Join us as we celebrate the contemporary work of DAR, while honoring our proud heritage of service for the past 117 years. Over 850,000 women have joined DAR since its founding. Our members have given their time, energy, and talents in volunteer efforts locally, nationally, and globally.

Please come in to our house!
